Edith Schneider is the founder and creative mind behind fiber & fringe. As a college professor for Fashion Design and Merchandising she experiences the need for materials and tools every semester when students, who want to try something new, don't have the means of buying all the necessities. So she created an event called "FFF- Fashion Fabric Frenzy" where she distributes donated goods to all students in need.
In 2020 Edith Schneider moved to Paso Robles, California, where she met a lot of textile crafters. She joined a few groups and built a wonderful network of likeminded people. But the urge of helping people never left her brain. Edith's favorite teaching topic, sustainability, never let her sit still and - funny enough - during an accupuncture appointment the idea of fiber & fringe was born! What followed were endless hours of visualizing, planning, paperwork, research, etc until fiber & fringe got a name, a concept, a website and all the other details a non-profit needs!
Edith Schneider teaches at MPC (Monterey Peninsula College), Middlebury College in Monterey, CA and Cañada College in Redwood City, CA.
Edith has an MA degree in Art Pedagogy, Art History and Cultural Anthropology from the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. She was born and raised there before immigrating to the USA in 1998.
Before her teaching career she founded "Edith Schneider Jewelry" in Menlo Park, CA and "blue lemon :: art to wear" in Carmel, CA. She is a certified color and style consultant. Raising two sons never slowed her down. Ever since they had left the nest, there is more time and energy to play, travel, and of course create! Edith lives with her husband Ted in a tiny house in downtown Paso Robles, CA.
